Nordik Hazel Grouse call

Calling hazel grouse is a very pleasant way of hunting and a perfect opportunity to show beginners and youth what hunting
is like. The Nordik hazel grouse call is made of plastic, thus avoiding the cold feeling of metal against your lips.

How to call:
The hazel grouse is easiest to call before the snow, on bare ground, but possible during the whole year. Try to find their
territory, they prefer mixed forests close to bogs, mores and creeks, so try calling in these wet areas. If you scare up a hazel
grouse while walking, stay close by and try calling it after a little while since they seldom fly far.
Wearing camouflage on your face and hands can increase
your chance of a successful hunt. Make sure to choose a stand
where you are well hidden but with good sight. Stay silent for
a little while and then start calling with some minutes interval.
Stay at your stand for 15 minutes even if you don’t hear
anything, some birds approach you silently, or walking on the
ground. When you are ready to choose a new stand, make
sure to move at least 200 meters to a new surrounding.

The call:
The call of the hazel grouse can be described as a chant of
needle sharp squeaks, that consist of 2 longer followed by
some twittering ”Tiiiiii-tiiiii-ti-ti-ti-ti”, where the chant makes a
”somersault” in the middle and then decreases in volume.
The tone should be cut of clean and sharp, if that is difficult to
do with thrusts of air, your finger can be used on the hole of
the call.
Once you get a reply, try to copy the call. But don’t call too
much! If you start replying to the calls you may end up in a
calling duel that never ends. If you instead stay silent, the bird
will become curious and approach you.
